Roaring Fork ~ Wood Fired cooking ~ San Antonio, Texas

Another one of Eddie V's restaurant right next door to Wildfish Seafood Grille is Roaring Fork.  Set out to be "Bold American cuisine, creating flavors that crackle with a rugged edge" we had to try it out.

I made reservations online which was very helpful & quick, we arrived around 7:30 on a Tuesday night.  It didn't seem to be very busy at all.

The place has sort of a romantic feel to it, dim lights, candles, booths as well as tables.

We looked at the menu and decided to start with the fried avocado.  It was delightful.  It has a sauce with crab mixed in it, delicious!

For our main entrees I had the seabass, it comes to you with a fried egg, just right on top of it, interesting.  It was tasty but I'm not quite sure what I was expecting.

My friend had the Carnitas which is a slow roasted pork.  The waiter described it as "you would be able to cut it with your fork it is so tender":

She wasn't really impressed with the meat, she did like the beans though.  We didn't choose to have any extra sides as there wasn't a huge selection of them that weren't carb friendly (macaroni, potatoes, etc.).

The service was great, the restaurant is nice but I don't know if I would go back.  I expected a little fancier menu for the atmosphere & price but I was dissapointed.  If I had to choose between the two restaurants I would definitely go to Wildfish Seafood Grille over Roaring Fork.

Roaring Fork is located at 1806 NW Loop 1604, you can make reservations online or call them 210-479-9700.

Kristin, this is so funny. A while back we had a buyer who asked in a local restaurant here for fried avocado (not on the menu - Mexican restarant) and the waitress almost dropped on the floor laughing. We had never heard of it either. Now we know! Looks delicious. ~Rita

Kristin -

You are making me hungry this morning...  I love food and I have the ___to prove it.  I love an honest restaurant review...  You keep eating and I'll keep reading.

Fried avocado? Hmm...I wonder if you could wrap bacon around that?

SP - I think Wildfish is winning if there is a race with San Antonians.  Definitely better IMHO.

Rita - It was a first for me also! Delicious!

Wayne - It was the best part of the dinner.  A tad spicy but very good.  I should try to make it myself.  Doesn't seem that hard?

Ann - Great idea!!  Let me know your plans :D.

Debbie - THanks. It was my first 'not so good' review so I hesitated but I think it's important to speak the truth!

Keith - What CAN'T you wrap bacon around?  mmmmmmm, bacon.  :)

That looks wonderful!  I went to a restaurant Friday night for the first time and I am kicking myself for forgetting my camera.  My husband was probably glad......
