Going to real estate conferences can be overwhelming! There are so many great speakers, people & things going on it can be too much! And going back to back is pushing it! You hear so much about going home & implementing what you learned so as not to "waste" your time there. There are so many things that haven't crossed your mind that other people do that you take copious notes wondering how you will implement all these spectacular ideas & find time for all these books, quizzes, worksheets, etc.
ONE of the things that I learned & started doing immediately was making my own LIFE LIST. Simple concept, just write down everything you want to Be, See & do in your lifetime. Things you MUST (in your own head) Be, See & do & cross them off one by one. You can get specific & write down by what time frame you want to do it in, add as you go along or put them all down at once!
There are plenty of times we think in our heads something we want to accomplish like maybe you want to "learn to change a tire by yourself" or "Streak across a football field". Whatever is important to you I guarantee is different when you take it from your head & write it down.
This was one task that was right up my alley. I love making lists. I have the same lists in different places it's crazed I know, but it's how I get things done (whatever works!).
I got to work right away on my life list & have been adding to it daily. Now that I see them on paper I get excited about planning how I will get these items done & have actually crossed things off my list. It's amazing, it works!
So, what do you want to do in your life? Make a life list so you don't miss anything & get started on scratching things off that list!

AWESOME idea! I'll get started today!
SMS - Wow. You are like lightning sister. I barely got the blog out & there you are. Speedy Sheila. KM
I love lists! I love checking things off my list. It is the only way I can stay on track.
Hi Kristin -- The most important thing on your list is about being a better mother. I am sure you are a great mother already.
Mel - Me Too! I think it's odd but I love them, they keep me focused!
Hi SP! - That's not my list! My list is private! :). I am not a mother (only to my yorkies) BUT! That is on my list! :). Thanks for the thought, that was sweet. KM
kinda of like the bucket list
my wife says you work your life backwards so that you make sure when you die people will say nice things about you.
only the life list you prioritize and schedule those things that you have to do
like in your daily schedule, you schedule your priorities, like I want to work out today, :5;30pm bodypump
I want to spend time with my wife: 6:30-7:30am her time
some things are just non negotiable
I like what you wrote

I have one, and it is all about traveling. I love to travel and I have so many places on my list I want to go next. On the top of that list right now is diving in Beliz!
My daily list is my way of keeping tabs on myself. It's a good idea to give our life a little direction too!
Good points - I've alos heard of life plan, i.e. just like a busines plan but for your .. life. Both plans must have a sincere focud and commitment to succeed. And both can give such amazing energy and pull power when followed with focus.
Hi Troy - Yes, you got it! I haven't seen the Bucket List but I suppose there is a similarity there. Now working backwards, that's funny, I suppose it's true.
Rebecca - AHHHHHHHHHHHH, crud. I now have to add that! Now that sounds like fun and I am guilty of having a TON of travel on my list also! Beaches ANYWHERE are what i'm all about!
Norma - without a doubt. If we don't know where we are going, well, we just don't know where we are going! SO! let's plan it out.
Steve - I agree completely. It's amazing how I have the items on my life list in my head & think of when & how I WILL accomplish them.
I have so many lists all over...lists for lists...I am inundated with lists!!!!!! :o( Can ya tell I am feeling a bit overwhelmed at the moment?
Kristen I love that you write your list out and that you have a plan for yourself! Like Troy said - it's like a bucket list. I think when it comes to lists I am the Queen - I have lists for my daughter, my husband and I and een one for work - then don't get me started with all the lists I keep for clients - it's endless and I love it and adding to them all the time. Great post. I love google docs too. See you on Twitter my friend. ~ Anne Marie
Hi Cristal! - Ok, wait a while on this list :). Take a break from the lists girlie! You have time...
AMM - I am sure your daughter & husband LOVE their lists! :). I know I did when I would get up and see one my mom left us (can you hear the sarcasm?) it was usually filled with CHORES. She loved lists too, I don't wonder ever where I got it from!
Good morning, KM. Very cool things to do list. Please take before and after shots of that L/R re-do. You know how much I like my eye candy! (LOL) <3 CTS.
Hey Kristin - Good Morning!
I love lists, I was inspired by the "Bucket List" and need to spend some time working on one.
tee hee
Kristin, making a life list is a great activity. I keep mine by the side of my desk as a constant reminder of those things I want to do in life. Here's my list in the form of a post I wrote months ago:
Bucket List -- Things Still to Do
Kristin, Lists keep me focused. And I feel great when I get to check off an item. Party time!
Kristin! This is a wonderful way to start the day! I also want to be a Rock Star! And as far as being 6 ft. tall? Don't worry about that, my beautiful wife is on 4'11" and I can assure you that good things do come in small packages! Have a great week!
K - Understanding what your goals is the first step to achieving them. Creating a list or documenting them will help you stay focused while you work towards these goals.
An excellent idea and a crucial part of setting and achieving goals. I maintain a couple of different lists. Things I want to accomplish in the short term (this year) and another for lifelong goals.
Kristin, I am a fan of lists as well! Good idea, this is something for me to work on.
what a great idea, thanks!
CTS - l/r re-do? I'm stumped!
Debbie -Since we are on the subject of lists I should definitely check out the bucket list! I've heard it's great!
SP - :)
Brian - Wow! and you shared it with all! how bold. Thanks for stopping by.
Richard - And i do as well! Sometimes when I do something that wasn't on the list I will add it & quickly check it off! :). Dorky, I know but makes me feel accomplished. Ahhhhh, it's the little things.
Russell - I am fine being 5'2" (for now...)
Erik - Exactly!
Jared - Thats a good idea but why don't you combine them? I would think that would make life easier?
Jeremy - I do believe once you start you will continue to add to it.
Jessica - THanks. I can't take credit for it :). I can only take credit for sharing what I have learned. :). KM
Kristin .. I have lists, journals, notebooks .. all kinds of stuff and I love to read through old ones to see how far I have come in certain areas of my life.
pippa
Great Idea and a way to stay focused - i put my short term life list on my Outlook task list so i have to see and do the ones that can up.
Hi Kristin,
Great post! I learned the strategy years ago from Joe Stumpf and By Referral Only. It was called a "100 Things To Do Before You Die".
It's hard to think of 100 things, but over time you can add to the list. The other important factor is to figure out when you're going to do the items. I do a minimum of one per quarter. Otherwise, it's too easy to forget about it or have a year or two go by without having done any.
Kristen...
Congratulations on ANOTHER gold star! I have 100 of them on my "life list!"
Pippa! - Good for you & great idea.
Spencer - Now that's a great idea, something you see daily is hard to ignore.
Dan - THat's a good idea. I think there is a book like that 100 (or 1,000) things to SEE before you die. I gave it to my dad for father's day one year,.
Richard - THank you. I like gold stars! They make me smile! :). KM
Agree totally...I'm a list maker...and this list is similar to a vision board which I use....
Kristin - If you complete your goal of become 6' feet tall, could you let me know how you did it. I'm short and would love to be taller.
Ah...the ol' bucket list, eh?
It really is a good point as, one day, your friends will get together to put an epitaph on your tombstone upon your death.
What will it say? I doubt it will say that she could really sell homes.......
Fun idea - I love lists, too! There are so many things that I want to do in life, I wonder if I will ever get around to them all!
hmmm.. don't think we've ever made a list for ourselves.. Good idea. We'll add it to our project list.
I am a huge fan of lists myself, kiddo! I especially love post-it notes. People used to joke with me about all the post it notes in my office. This is GREAT!! I've been working on mine for a long time...and I keep updating it with new ideas. Life is precious...and time flies. Having a list gives you a better chance of accomplishing your goals...whatever they are. GBU!
similiar to the bucket list...which I have now created...things that I want to do, before...I get too old to do them.. :)
Sonia - That sounds like a spectacular idea also. Right in front of your face where you can't miss it.
Hi Sandra - THat was a made up list! It was for effect! :). I am happy being 5'2" & shopping at the short girl store.
Tim - Very true. An old boss of mine used to always ask us "What will YOUR legacy be that you leave behind....". Hopefully it will be more than selling homes!
Emily - I already feel I am one step closer due to my new LIFE LIST!
Castellum Realty - Ya'll will be glad you did....
Elizabeth - I am with you there! Just looking at my desk right now w/all it's colorful post-its. Seriously, there should be a limit at how many post-its one can have on their desk :). KM
KonniE - Exactly! Yes, that's my fear also, I best get started! KM
Kristin - I like lists sometimes, too, but I don't seem to be very good at making these types of lists for some reason. My lists are more short-term in nature, which I realize doesn't help with long-term goals.
Kristin - Darn..I was hoping you had some secret growing formula. I hate shopping in the short girl stores, not enough selection.
Jason - I say whatever works, works. I have had some short term goals lead to long term (not by choice). :).
Sandra - Unfortunately no! No secret formula. About the short girl store....you are preaching to the choir.
Hey,
Great post and I like that you did it on Google Docs. I had my TV go out and had to replace the DLP Lamps in it. Total pain in the butt. but worth the effort.
~K~,
You are a Rock Star! I love list too, keeps me focused!!
I'm a go with the flow type person but really I need a plan rather than going hey lets go do this. Thanks for bringing this to light!
Love this post! I am all about the to do list..I guess I should apply that to my life, right away! BTW..I too want to be six foot tall!
my50.com is a website where you can read other people's life lists, pretty interesting reading and can give you a basis for your own list. I haven't done mine yet - Still trying to find 50.
That is great - sorry to hear about your dlp bun-out?
Tony - HA! I just play one on t.v.
unnamed person - Thanks for stopping by!
Cherimie - HA! I know, I know. Just for one day at least!
Kat - WOAH! I will definitely check that out. Thanks!
Kristin - A life list is a great idea. It's a great idea to write it down while you're young so that you'll have more time (Lord willing) to accomplish them... :)
Kristin: I'm back on AR after a two or three day absence (overworked) and what is the first thing I do? Respond to your blog. I saw the word LIST in the title and I just had to come here.
I have lists for everything. I make a list before I go to bed of things I have to do the next day. I have a life list. I have an immediate future list; a list for places to visit (travel); a list for what I am going to do to my home; a list for my investment properties; a list for the business; a list for education. You get the idea... I have lists for everything I am in the process of accomplishing! I love lists; I could not live without them!
As you can tell, I am a firm believer in making lists. I always use a large orange highlighter and I cross it off as soon as I'm done with that item It's a great feeling. Lately I've been keeping a lot of my lists on my computer, but still highlight each item accomplished in yellow or orange, as soon as I'm done with it.
1. Goals
2. Lists
3. Affirmations
4. Prayer
5. Regular self analysis/self assessment
The above items are the 5 steps to success in life, in my not so humble opinion... Works for me.
Good blog!
By the way, this is comment Nr.50 and you are now at the top of our Optimist Board.
Congratulations on your feature blog with AR and your feature blog with the Optimist Group!
Great blog Kristin!
Did you see The Bucket List? Same idea! I LOVE that movie - totally inspired and encourages us all to START living TODAY! Keep up the good work!
Cheers!
Teri
What a terrific Idea and Share! Thank you! I'll add a link to it from my post - on positive attitude posts! Did that make sense? lol
Debi - You are so right!
Mirela - Sounds like you are for sure on the right track lady! THanks for responding & featuring me in your group!
TLC - I haven't! It's on my list though :)
Liz - THanks so much!
There is nothing more satisfying to me than crossing something off of my list that I have accomplished. I have daily lists and a long term list that I update regularly. It helps keep me focused. Thanks for the post.
