I read an interesting article in San Antonio's (only) paper the San Antonio Express News by Carlos Guerra. Unlike the name of the article the meat & potatoes of the writing focused on money for convention centers in San Antonio that was money misspent in his opinion.
Well, probably alot of SA's residents opinion, BUT, so not my point.
What was of interest to me was the point (which wasn't expanded upon) that Tourism is no longer the city of San Antonio's largest employer. That the "tourism" department of SA wasn't hurting so much after 9/11 because we weren't as HUGE as other tourist cities, therefore not having so much to rebuild. And to add to that fact that most of SA's visitors come from non other than TEXAS.
TEXANS who love TEXAS. Who could ask for anything more? or less? Or whatever.
The point of the article that I took from it is that most of San Antonio's visitors are here for FUN. Good ol' fashioned, F-U-N. From the F to the U to the N. Ok, you get the gist. Who doesn't want to visit a city that's fun? Ok, let's expand beyond that...who doesn't want to LIVE in a city that's FUN?
Me, Me, Me, Me, Mmmmmmmmmmmmeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!
You can read more of Mr. Guerra's article here and if I missed his point, I apologize. Having lived in San Antonio all my life I cannot think of another city that number 1) Is more FUN and number 2) That I would rather live in.
So, take if for what it's worth; from a San Antonio gal who has lived her ENTIRE 37 years in SA, knows SA & loves SA.
SA is tons o' fun.

Sista, I like having the SA fun with you!
I have visited San Antonio more times than I can remember. Fun is certainly how I would describe it.
I know a lot of folks in the DFW area who use the San Antonio area as a good place for a weekend excursion ... they always rave about it and how much of a good time that they had. Seems like a great city!
It's not only fun- It's beautiful. I love that little Irish bar down by the water.
Hopefully Carlos Guerra gets his talking points from reliable sources so I can't really argue with him. I can only speak from personal experience. My husband is retired from the federal government and works part time as my unpaid assistant and part time for a destination management company (convention events, etc.). After 911 the destination management company he was working for went out of business because there was no business for quite a while. The convention business here has built back up and my husband now works for a different destination management company. IMHO the money spent on convention centers is money well spent.
I make it a point to take most things I read in the newspaper or hear on TV with a grain of salt. :-)
By the way, expect a call from me this week.
SMS - Woo Hoo!
Hi Mel!- Glad you agree. Next time you are here we will have to get together for some fun!
Hi Ellie!- ME TOO!! An irish girl loves irish bars!
SP! - Good for your husband, it was tough for awhile but now we are back on track. Sounds good to me. KM
San Antonio's by far my favorite Texas city, which is why I'm trying very hard to have a good fall and winter so that I can take off a week in March and go to our company convention there in San Antonio. I went with my Partner many years ago to see Paul McCartney at the Alamo Dome, and then a few months later to see Texas A&M and SMU play a football game. Those waterfalls around the Hemisfair Tower are extraordinary.
Hi Jim! Without a doubt. I am partial to SA also. Go Jim! Go!
